ABOUT YMH Media Corporation and
YOU'RE MY HERO® books
You’re My Hero™ is the brainchild of professional speaker and author Barry Spilchuk. Dubbed as Canada's Dale Carnegie, Barry co- authored of one of Canada’s top selling books in the Chicken Soup for the Soul® series, A Cup of Chicken Soup for the Soul®. Barry was not only the first Canadian affiliated with Chicken Soup for the Soul® but was also the first male to co-author a book for the wildly successful series. A Cup of Chicken Soup for the Soul® sold an outstanding 580,000 copies and earned Barry the title of Canada’s Chicken Soup Guy.
In 2009, Barry joined forces with Sarah Freeman and Sasha Marusich to create YMH Media Corporation (YMH). YMH creates and publishes You’re My Hero™ Books - a new inspirational book series in which everyday people write stories about their everyday heroes, people who inspire, who excite and who educate as a result of their actions. The You’re My Hero™ book series provides a venue for the kinds of stories that almost all of us have, but rarely share beyond our friends and family.
Additionally, and just as importantly, You’re My Hero™ books offers a unique and new means of raising funds for causes we hold dear - for our communities, organizations, schools, foundations and charities. To date, four You’re My Hero ® books have been published; the first for the city of North Bay, Ontario, Canada, which resulted in over $27,000 being donated to North Bay community charities. The second and third books were created by students and teachers for two school boards; The Northern Ontario Catholic School Board and the Toronto Catholic School Board. The first of these two books was created as a fundraising initiative and the second as a multi school community awareness initiative. The fourth and most recent book is the first National book in the YMH series; You’re My Hero™ Girl Guides of Canada-Guides du Canada (2010,) created to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Girl Guides in Canada and to raise funds for Girl Guides of Canada. There are now several new titles in development both in Canada and the United States.
Our goal in all books is twofold: Firstly to give people everywhere the opportunity to share inspiring, heart-felt stories about everyday heroes in our everyday lives and hopefully inspire readers and heroes everywhere; and secondly to help meaningful and important foundations, not-for profit organizations and charities raise funds and help promote and develop awareness of their causes through the stories that are told in the books. The book and the stories also tend to create a more defined and closely felt sense of community amongst the supporters of the group, the writers whose stories appear in the book, and the readers.
